Painting is the last visible trade before handover – every flaw is noticed immediately. The trade covers interior painting on plaster, drywall, and wallpaper, textured and smooth wall coatings, lacquering of doors, windows, and radiators, exterior façade painting, wallpapering with non-woven, woodchip, or designer wallpapers, and specialised coatings such as glazes, decorative renders, and fire-retardant paints. Preparation – substrate assessment, filling, sanding, priming – often takes longer than the actual painting. Which drying times must be observed?: Example Germany: dispersion paint dust-dry after 2 h, recoatable after 4–6 h, fully cured after 12–24 h. Lacquers: recoatable after 6–24 h depending on product. Exterior: no application below 5 °C, not in rain or direct sun.
